Water Rates Hearing
March 11th Water Hearing meeting at city council was bland on the council's part, but the speakers were insightful. PWB/Green Party member Derek Grisby reminded city council that more serious problems trumped water rates increases, like excessive war spending, 45,000 shutoffs and the current numbers and the council reluctance to implement the Orginial Water Affordability Plan to heal some of these public ills. Shortly after 6PM the meeting was and that's when the PWB went into action. PWB commissioners made the best of opportunities presented after the public hearing. One member engaged councilwoman Shauntel Jenkins, while the other challenged DWSD president in a discussion concerning water privatization and municipal worker layoffs. The other took video footage from the PWB members and participates at the meeting, while this blogger tried to record every event that occurred. PWB represented strong, see everyone at the March 24th demo in front of the DWSD on Randolph.
